Nigel Foote – singer/songwriter/guitarist
Biography
Nigel Foote is an Australian singer/songwriter/guitarist from the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. Nigel’s debut recording was ’Say No, Say No’, an anti-nuclear weapons single released in association with the Greenpeace organisation in 1986 – The International Year of Peace. 'Say No, Say No' was well received in Germany, and both sides of the record won songwriting awards, including a PATER International Broadcasting Award for Best Song about Peace and Mankind.
Encouraged by the artistic success of the record, Nigel, previously a candlemaker by trade, released his first album, ‘Dangerous Game’, and became a full-time musician, mostly working the Blue Mountains region with his wife, Dawn Egan, a folksinger.
In 2006, Nigel released his second album, ‘Home by Dark’, winning the Folk Award category of the Blue Mountains Music Awards in 2006 and 2007, for songs from the album.
Nigel's latest release is 'Back to the Streets', a call to action, particularly in support of Greenpeace’s anti-nuclear history and ICAN’s current campaign to pressure governments to sign and ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
'Back to the Streets' received its first public screening at the inaugural Blue Mountains Peace Symposium, Katoomba, on 2 August 2025. The song was released on Hiroshima Day, August 6, and received national airplay on ABC Radio, 'Australia All Over', a few days later.
Nigel has gifted his three anti-nuclear weapons songs to the anti-nuclear movement: 'Say No, Say No', 'Going Somewhere', and 'Back to the Streets', may be used freely in anti-nuclear campaigns, by the media, or for school projects. Education of the dangers of nuclear weapons and nuclear waste, is fundamental to our survival.
"Nigel is a gifted songwriter who can communicate the world’s despair in wonderful songs – an imperative contribution." – Dr Helen Caldicott (2025)
