“Nigel is very important in the scheme of things, a gifted songwriter who can communicate the world’s despair in wonderful songs – an imperative contribution.” - Dr Helen Caldicott
150 WORD BIO
Nigel Foote is an Australian singer/songwriter/guitarist from the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. Nigel’s debut recording was ’Say No, Say No’, an anti-nuclear weapons song released in association with Greenpeace in 1986 – The International Year of Peace. Both songs on the single won songwriting awards, including a PATER International Broadcasting Award for Best Song about Peace and Mankind. Encouraged by the artistic success of the record, Nigel, previously a candlemaker by trade, released his first album, ‘Dangerous Game’, and became a full-time musician. Equally as passionate about composing guitar instrumentals as songwriting, Nigel also established himself as a teacher of folk-blues guitar, passing on his tunes to generations of students. In 2006, Nigel released ‘Home by Dark’, winning the Folk Award in the Blue Mountains Music Awards in 2006 and 2007 for songs from the album. His latest release is ‘Back to the Streets’ (2025).
